I work much of the day, MUUMediaBase was empty. Terhi came by in the morning to work on where we will surf during the Internet Workshop next week. Kati dragged me away from the machines to go see Ed Osbourn’s installation at the temporary Museum of Design in the old part of town. I was deLighted to run into Eva and Johanna (who had gotten a great new haircut!). They were out for shopping. I have hardly been a tourist here in Helsinki, so I had never been in the old ritzy quarter — beautiful Jugendstil style buildings from the teens and twenties. Architecturally Helsinki is one of the most interesting cities I have spent time in — coherent, yet totally different. Kati and I had lunch and then back to work … I am still spending significant time on the Media and Ethics site, and not feeling like I am making much progress. Still waiting on articles from the main folks — Mark Dery, Peter Weibel, Minna Tarkka, Geert Lovink, and some others … Waiting. Plus there is a mass of images to be scanned and inserted into the site … I dunno. Gotta find some closure soon, as I am completely running out of time. Am I being productive? — I think to myself. Certainly working hard and talking to many people. But what is productive anymore? What is vital production? Is it simply human connection? I would prefer to make that connection. The performance, after this next time in Tampere, is finished. No more of that. I have to move on to something else. That I can do with no pretension. It is getting rote, possibly. Maybe not. Maybe I need to make the same performance a number of times — to stretch the meanings and the forms. Cheers – goodnight. I go to bed early now.
