Some slight rain this morning on the way over Marias Pass, 5213′. It was discovered in 1889 by a Col. John Stevens — alone & in -40℉ weather. There is a statue of him and a monument at the pass. I’ll bet he wasn’t a Colonel when he found this pass!

At 7:30 PM the train made an unscheduled stop just slightly west — 1/2 mile of Tioga, ND. A freight ahead broke an axle, so the train was split and a new truck put under the car. I turned in about 10 PM when the last car of #32 was in front of the Tioga Station. See tomorrow’s notes. I don’t see how this much time can be made up between here and St. Paul; it’s only 76 miles and we are due to leave there at 0650 in the morning.
