Tried to find George Elliott of Aerospace at the Hilton Inn, but was unsuccessful. He didn’t attend, as it turned out later.
Arrived at Bldg. 1622 WSMR/SMSA at 0910. The meeting convened at 1030 with Sam Bird as chairman. Aerospace, A. Resnick, Sperry, Raytheon, and WSMR all spoke, covering the background instrumentation available at WSMR, and the plans of each firm. I took 10 pp. of notes. At the conclusion, I suggested that the program seemed to need a technical steering committee. This comment seemed to meet with approval. The Raytheon rep, Paul Nicholson, will send me — as well as the other attendees — a set of his handouts. I’ll have to carefully sift the notes to spot the differences in the schemes of each company; their objectives seemed comparable.
Clear
After the ECM mtg at WSMR, I drove over to the White Sands National Monument to see the moving gypsum dunes. It is a most instructive place, and I enjoyed the ride around the loop, taking a roll of pictures. I then went on back to El Paso via Las Cruces and Metillo on Rt. 28.
Saw Col. Jensen — who was our next door neighbor at Elmendorf — at the entrance to the Officer’s Club, but I couldn’t recall his name until he had gone on away. He is retiring to a house on the hill in the neighborhood of WSMR. I couldn’t find the access road on going by at 6:20 PM..
