Left Orlando at 0800 for Patrick AFB & Cape Canaveral.
We heard a general orientation briefing with a movie, and saw a Polaris firing; the 3rd stage didn’t ignite properly. We then went on a drive-by tour of the Pershing, Thor, M2, Mace & Centaur, Atlas, Titan, and Saturn launch areas. We arrived at the BOQ at 2 PM. I took John Hall and Dick Martin to the Herndon AP & went on over to McCoy to get the 4:25 EAL/707 for NY. It didn’t have enough fuel to hold for an hour so it stopped at Baltimore and refueled losing 1-1/2 hours. Arrived at Idlewild at 10 PM and on to Boston at 10:55 PM on EAL. Actually arrived at Logan at 12:30 during the hurricane. Twelve inches of rain was in the process of falling. The car stalled 3 times and I finally called LCH from the Rt. 2 Howard Johnsons at Concord. About the time she arrived, the Willys started. In bed at 3 AM.
Clear
Heard at Patrick AFB, a good overall briefing & movie on AMR, and then we were taken on a drive-by your of Canaveral.
Left Orlando at 4:25 PM for NY, arriving at Idlewild at 10 PM after a 1-1/2 hour delay at Balto for more fuel. The hurricane has put a damper on flying in the NE. Got to Boston at 12:30 AM, where a driving rain was coming down. Water on the car ignition stopped me three times on the way home; I finally got there at 3 AM; the car stopped at the Howard Johnsons on Rt. 2 & I called LCH finally; it started again about the time she arrived.
