This
video triptych explores the intersection of Light and Being at crux
points of solar & terrestrial:cosmic change.
solstice I :
The raw material for solstice I & II are two time-lapse tapes shot
using the time-lapse feature of a JVC VHS camcorder. Both sequences
were shot out of the window of a small cabin in Fludir, Iceland on
the Winter Solstice Day, one in 1991, and one in 1992. The ten-minute
segment runs from before sunrise until after sunset -- following the
progress of the entire three-hour Arctic day. The raw material was
edited onto a master SVHS tape with the soundtrack and intercut with
segments of Light gathered at other times and in other places of Iceland.
11:09, VHS PAL, stereo audio, Fludir, Iceland, 1991.
solstice II:
11:22, VHS PAL, stereo audio, Fludir, Iceland, 1993.
solstice III:
The raw material for the final work of this series is a single 10
minute shot from the roof of my flat in Reykjavík on 21 June
1993. the world is clearly in dynamic equilibrium.
