hommage to coal train
frame grab, Arvada, Colorado, September 1997.
Linda's house -- the one with the arbor in the front and the luxurious and verdant garden in the back, deep in Arvada -- with the main Santa Fe & Western line just across the street. trains gotta go slow as they approach downtown Denver just down the line, downhill. four or five engines front, center, and rear as the string of loaded coal cars comes out of the Rockies a scant ten miles away, making the run from the Western Slope coal mines to the main power station for the Front Range. hot braking rumbles and dry caught drums sing the song of the rails.

06:00, stereo audio on DAT, original ambient material recorded on a Sony Hi8 video cam on location in Arvada, Colorado in 1997. more...
