Ladies and Gentlemen,
Madames et Messieurs,
Hyvät Naiset ja Herrat,

On behalf of the Finnish Broadcasting Company and the Radio and Television Institute I warmly wish you all welcome to this Symposium on Media and Ethics.

This Symposium, concentrating on the possibilities and challenges of the new medias and forms of art coming face to face with each other, will surely open new windows to the fields of human communication. It is not only the technical development which leads the way to the future, but also the possible new way of thinking about ethical theories and practicies towards the new world -- where art and media and where people face each other.

The theme of the Symposium is absolutely important to our time, and that is why we here at the YLE and at the Radio and Television Institute are very pleased that this kind of a Symposium is made possible. The main organisers for this meeting are the Arts Council of Finland, the MAP Project and Radio and Television Institute, and the organisers have done an excellent work in gathering together all you professionals from various countries.

We don't know yet where this Symposium leads on the concrete level, but I'm sure that all of us will be professionally more civilized, and also will have a clearer point-of-view after these few days together.

So, I wish you all a warm welcome. I do hope, and actually, I am sure, that you all have emotional and not only intellectual experiences during these days.

The floor is yours. Thank you.
